Boeing receives an order from Air New Zealand for the replacement of eight Boeing 777-200ERs. Airbus was also in the race for orders.

Reuters reports this based on sources. Air New Zealand already flies exclusively with wide body aircraft from Boeing for the long haul. For the shorter routes, the airline flies Airbus aircraft.

Air New Zealand would have looked for the A350 from Airbus and the Boeing 777X or 787 Dreamliner for the replacement order. With this, the company wants to implement long routes such as between Auckland and New York and from Auckland to Brazil.

In March, Air New Zealand indicated that a decision on fleet renewal would be taken in the following months. It was indicated that there would be fewer devices due to changes in the network. In the same month, the airline launched a cost-saving program that reduced the investments in the fleet.
